Red Wine Hot Chocolate

So, you can't get anywhere near Pinterest this year without bumping into recipes for red wine hot chocolate. Now, it may sound off-putting at first, but sit with it for a minute. Red wine? Delicious. Hot chocolate? Also, delicious. We were intrigued, so we researched a few different recipes and came up with our own. Extra rich, extra decadent and really quite simple to prepare―this is a beverage for a special evening with friends or all on your ownsome.

INGREDIENTS
(Serves 4)
85 grams good quality dark chocolate (finely chopped)
1 tablespoon (7 grams)  unsweetned cocoa powder
1 tablespoon (13 grams) brown sugar (dark is better, but golden will do)
2 cups (475 ml) of whole milk
dash of cinnamon
pinch of salt
3/4 cup (175 ml) of red wine (fruity reds are nicer)
whipped cream for topping

METHOD
Combine the chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and cinnamon together in a large pot. Add the milk and bring to a simmer over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until hot and smooth. Add a dash of salt.

Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the wine. Pour into glasses and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a dusting cocoa powder.
